Samuel A. Markley
Samuel A. Markley, 84, of 5840 Bloomingrove Road, Cogan Station, died Friday, March 28, 1997, at home after a lengthy illness. He and his wife, the former Erma M. Hillyard, observed their 59th wedding anniversary Feb. 3. Employed by the former Reading Railroad as a trainman and conductor for 37 years, he retired in 1974. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending garage sales. He as a member of the former Army Calvary. Born June 11, 1912, in the city's Newberry section, he was a son of William O. and Mary Elizabeth Bachman Markley. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Beverly M. Camp of Montoursville RR4; a brother, William of this city; four grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:00 am Tuesday at Rearick-Carpenters 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Lynn A. Wheeler, associate pastor of Community Baptist Church, Montoursville, officiating, Interment will be in Salladasburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 to 10 am.
