TACOMA, WA. - Michael Ray Mitchell died March 13, 1997 in Tacoma, Washington. He was born October 26, 1974, in Poplar, Montana, on the Fort Peck Reservation.
Michael attended Kindergarten through 12th grade at Chief Leschi Schools and graduated overcoming many obstacles.
Michael was a student of Indian culture. He was well known throughout the Northwest for his dancing at powwows. He was a supporter and active participant of A.I.M. traveling throughout the United States with the leader of the A.I.M. Society.
He will be gready missed by his father and mother, William and Earline Mitchell; brother, Patrick Mitchell and sister, Lisa Anderson and relatives on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana as well as relatives in Tacoma too numerous to name.
He loved and was loved by all the children. He was kind and loving to all animals. He was a gentle spirit who found peace in the mountains.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 18 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Tuell-McKee Funeral Home Chapel of the Chimes.
Michael had a true Indian farewell ceremony. Mike, was
dressed in his full Indian regalia. After the ceremony, the family and many, many friends of Mike was honored by a feed from the Puyallup Tribe at the Puyallup Center.
The Mitchell family would like to thank you for sharing Mike's life, and for your support this day. It was his wish to have his ashes set free amongst the mountains where the eagles fly, so he could always be with the eagles.
Miss me - but let me go
When I come to the end of the road, And the sun has set for me.
I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free.
Miss me a little - but not too long. And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me - but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take. And each must go alone. It's all part of the Master's plan. A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and
sick of heart, go to the
friends we know.
And bury your sorrows in
doing good deeds.
Miss me - but let me go.
