Joseph DeWayne Shields, Jr., age 67, of Wolf Point, MT, passed away March 11, 2011 at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point.

Joseph, the son of Joseph and Doris Mae (Headdress) Shields Sr., was born September 4, 1943 in Poplar, MT. Joseph was raised by his grandparents Henry and Sarah Headdress. He attended elementary and high school in Wolf Point. He spent the majority of his life on the Fort Peck Reservation; also spending time in Washington, Colorado, and Minnesota. Over the years he was employed as a rancher, in the oil fields, in construction, and as a security guard. Joseph attended church at the Blue Sky Ministries. He enjoyed rodeos, leather crafts, crossword puzzles, mechanical work, and playing pool.

On August 12, 1984 he married Marian Gwin in Wolf Point.

Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Doris Shields Sr.; grandparents, Henry and Sarah Headdress; brother, Lonnie Shields; aunts, Henerietta Johnson, May Dumont, and Gladys Hayes; uncle, Dale Headdress; sisters, Norma Bushman and Narana Squires; step kids, Norma Dahl and Kristie Sorensen.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Shields of Wolf Point; daughters, Jolene Shields, Kimberly Shields, Justine Shields, all of Poplar and Jay Dee Chelby of Great Falls, MT; son, Joseph Sheilds of Crow Agency, MT; aunt, Elaine Cantrell of Wolf Point; siblings, Sue Cordova and John Whitright both of Seattle, WA; step children, Kirt Dahl, Clancie Sorensen, and Cynthia Youpee; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will start at 1 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Cremation will take place following the services.
