Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, or "Frenchtown" is where Alex Batise Martell married Frances Josette Bonet in 1844. They had four children: Mary, b.1845; Alex, b. 1848; Louis, b. 1851; and Madaline, b. 1854. When Alex Martell Sr.'s first wife Frances died, he went out west from Allamakee County, Iowa, to Washington Territory and married a Mrs. Pruley, and had another child, Josephine Martell, b. 1858. Both Mary Martell and Madaline Martell married two brothers, John Verdon and Mose Verdon. Mose Verdon lived in Portland. Alex Martell, Jr. lived in Vancouver, Washington, where he died in 1928. Mose married Mary Martelle or Marelle?, daughter of Alex Martelle and Frances Josetta LaTranche, on 19 Dec 1864 in Allamakee, Iowa. |
