excerpt from book "Full Court Quest" re: Fort Shaw

One of the most influential men on the reservation, David Mitchell, son of the legendary fur trader and Indian agent, David Dawson Mitchell, had allowed two of his daughters, fifteen year old Josephine and six year old Nancy, to go to Fort Shaw aboard the very same train that had taken the Wirth sisters west.

Also:

Needing female assistants as well as male, he chose one of his most mature and responsible students, fifteen year old Josephine Mitchell, assuring her that she could continue her studies even while gaining invaluable work experience. - Fort Shaw records says she was 17

She did get married to Frank Choate according to the marriage cert from Family Search.org. However, it shows him having children by another woman during their marriage. Frank married the mother of his children in 1898. It is most likely that the marriage to Josephine was very short-lived; no children were born to this union. She died in the fall of 1899. They probably met at Fort Shaw as he was a student and/or employed there as well.

Yes, that was the case. I found in http://books.google.com/books?id=sNkRAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA520&lpg=PA520&dq=frank+choate%22+fort+shaw&source=bl&ots=en07ICcxh3&sig=77oHRexoYPwRJ_3-yOKmyC-fUXc&hl=en&ei=QegdTvWUCe3UiAL5vaCECQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CCsQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=frank%20choate%22%20fort%20shaw&f=false
