OCNS - September 15, 2000 - Pawhuska resident, Malena Rose Yates, 21, passed away Friday, September 15, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident east of SH 99 on Nelagoney Road, east of Pawhuska.
Malena was born June 12, 1979, to Paul E. and Cheryl R. (Hill) Yates, Jr., in Lawton, Oklahoma.
She was an Intake Specialist for the Osage Nation Tribal TANIF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Indian Families) program.
Surviving are: her parents, Paul E. Yates, Jr., of Pawhuska, and Cheryl R. Yates of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her sister, Alicia Marie Yates and her paternal grandmother, Eva Yates both of Pawhuska; her maternal grandmother, Freda Mitchell of Sacramento, California; her maternal step-grandmother, Gwen Hill of Sisseton, South Dakota; aunts and uncles, Everett and Marian Waller of Hominy, Oklahoma; James and Shelley Yates of Nelagoney, Oklahoma; Deborah Hair of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Barbara Dale of Pawhuska; Richard A. Hill of Dallas, Texas; Luana R. Hill and Kenton M. Johnson, both of Sacramento; Darold J. Hill, Alan Morrefette, and Kenny Morrefette, all of Sisseton, South Dakota; Harold Hill of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Iris Hill of Eagle Butte, South Dakota; Mary Lou Good Teacher, Harold Dean Hill and Barbara Hill, all of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Malena was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Paul E. Yates, Sr., and her maternal grandfather, Harold G. Hill.
Services will be held Monday, September 18, at 10:00 a.m., at the Wakon Iron Community Center, Indian Camp, Pawhuska, with Mongrain Lookout officiating.
Interment will be in the Nelagoney Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Directors.
