William Moseley

  General Notes:

Absolute proof of the relationship between William Moseley and Robert and Penelope Moseley has not been found as of June 2003. However what has been uncovered points to at least a very close relation in time and area. Most genealogists speculate that William was some relation to Robert and may have been the last child of this couple or a grandchild of one of their older children

A William Mosley and his wife Julia/Judia Cheatham who joined Moriah Baptist Church of Butler Co., AL on August 15, 1834, are mentioned on pages 355-356 in Part II, Chapter I (by Fran k J. Peugh, HC 30, Box 1233, Prescott, AZ 86301-7458) in A Moseley Genealogy Volume II issue d in 1993 by
Thomas Byrd Moseley, Jr. of Route 2, Box 47A, Clifton, TX 76634. ;This article said that William and Julia/Judia Mosley were probably married in Edgefield County, SC, about 1814 but that SC did not require that marriage bonds be posted until much later and that church records were almost non-existent for that time period. The article further said that Jul ia/Judia's parents were Guthridge Cheatham (born 1777 in VA and died December 1865 in Butler Co., AL) a Elizabeth ?, and her grandparents were Peter Cheatham and Elizabeth Thurmond (da ughter of Am. Rev. Soldier John Thurmond), and Elizabeth Goode/Guthridge of Albemarle Co. VA , Lincoln Co., GA and Edgefield Co.SC.

Julia Cheatham and son Guthridge were appointed administrators of William Mosley's estate in January 1843. William and Julia/Judia Mosley are probably buried in unmarked graves at Moriah Baptist Church.
